Tattoo Designs For You

Article Directory :: Arts & Entertainment Articles

You can easily select your tattoo design from a wide range starting from Polynesian designs, which by the way are the most ancient, to the latest designs. It is crucial that you understand what the tattoo you select stands for as each tattoo design contains a deeper symbolic meaning.

Maori tattoos normally portray the family history and the personal story of the person they are found on. This type of tattoo was supposed to act like identification papers. A 'Haida' tattoo would generally depict mythological events, for eg. an ancestor encountering a supernatural being.

Several meanings are given to tattoos of celestial bodies. A tattoo of a star could have completely different meanings depending on the number of points of the star, and also on its orientation. Zodiac sign tattoos are simpler in comparison as it only portrays the birth sign of the person.

Tattoos of the Cross, the Dragon, the Fairy, the Phoenix, etc., are thought to be either supernatural or spiritual and could have many meanings; religious leaning is usually conveyed by the Cross; the setting and the rising sun are symbolized by the Phoenix tattoo; the Fairy means innocence and a wish to stay a child filled with wonder; an amoral state where nothing is good or bad is shown by the dragon; the Kanji symbolizes cherry blossoms and an Eastern philosophy; and the Celtic tattoo symbolises the various seasons and the life-cycle.

Most popular are tattoos of birds and animals. A Butterfly symbolizes Fire and acts as a reminder of nature's mysteries and the diverse and rich imagination of the human mind. The omnipresent stars are symbolized by the Swallow, which also could stand for the souls of those long dead. The easy and light flight of butterfly and the dominant strength of the eagle are displayed with a Wings tattoo. Freedom lovers normally choose the Eagle as it symbolizes an unchallenged and free-roaming spirit that has the ability to soar to heights and swoop way down into the valleys. The Tiger means beauty, passion, power, and cruelty while the Lion simply portrays loyalty.

The Crown tattoo is popular too as it conveys self-control and the use of power and knowledge in a way that is just and right.

Flowers usually depict the cycle of birth, reproduction, death, rebirth and also nature. A Heart tattoo brings to mind persons you love, and Roses convey the purest love.

If you aren't looking for any serious meanings to be attached to your tattoo, you could go with painting a picture of a girl or if you would like something ominous, the Skull and Crossbones.

As is evident, getting a tattoo is not a simple affair of just getting a picture etched on your flesh; it is a permanent statement of who you are and what you stand for. You will surely regret at a later date if you rush into a popular tattoo without giving it much thought. Your tattoo is a permanent symbol, so make sure you research each design thoroughly so that it remains meaningful for the rest of your life.
